There are many books that get banned from school libraries
for various reasons. Some I agree are reasonable to take out but some are
ridiculous. There is one book that was banned that I don’t completely
understand. I was reading an article on the top 10 books that are banned and
the book “And Tango Makes Three” was banned from school libraries. The book is
based on a true story about 2 male penguins who hatch an egg together. The main
reason why there was so many complaints is because the main characters of this
story re two gay penguins named Roy and Silo.
At first the two penguins try to hatch a standard rock. Just
then their zoo keeper gives them an abandoned egg to hatch in an act of
sympathy.
Many parents would find this book inappropriate, setting a
bad example for kids. Other parents would be okay with the fact of their child
reading this book. The reason this book was banned was because it has a "homosexual story line that has
been sugarcoated with cute penguins," said by A Lodi. You would not expect
little Elementary school kids to understand what homosexuality is, some may
know and may not know. I believe it is just a way of life. Many other people
would disagree with me. You don’t have to agree with me, it’s my own opinion,
and we all have our own. Kids will have
to learn sooner or later the facts of life and about the different people that
are in the world we live in. we are ALL apart of society!
